Effect of Cu content on the microstructure and mechanical properties of Mo5Si3-Cu composites

Abstract:
      Mo5Si3-Cu composites were prepared by mechanical alloying and hot pressing sintering method with Mo, Si and Cu powders as raw materials. The effects of Cu content on the microstructure and mechanical properties of Mo5Si3-Cu composites were studied in detail. The results show that the phase composition of Mo5Si3-Cu composite is composed of Mo5Si3 matrix and Cu grain boundary. The microstructure of Mo5Si3-Cu composites is uniform and fine, and the grain size is between 3~5μm. With the increase of Cu content, the relative density, flexural strength and fracture toughness of composites increased gradually. While the hardness increased first and then decreased with Cu increasing. The density, hardness, flexural strength and fracture toughness of Mo5Si3-10%Cu composite were 98.2%, 793HV, 551MPa and 8.47MPa.m1/2, respectively.
