Abstract:
Ti-20Al-xSi alloys(x=0, wt.%, 1, wt.%, 2, wt.%, 3, wt.%, 4, wt.%, 5wt.%) were prepared in multi grade vacuum sintering furnace by powder metallurgic processes. The microstructure and phase of alloy were characterized by optical microscope and X-ray diffraction, and the density and Brinell hardness were tested as well. The results show that the microstructure of Ti-Al-Si alloy is uniform and small when the sintering temperature is 1400 ℃. The microstructure of Ti-Al alloy can be improved and more evenly distributed by adding Si. In addition to the Ti3Al phase, the alloy also contains Ti5Si3 and Ti5Si3 phase. The density and hardness of the alloy with 3% Si were increased by 16.6% and 47% than the alloy without Si, respectively.
