Abstract:
The geological survey and geoscience studies have raised an urgent request for data sharing in the background of big data. The major developed countries in Europe and America have been effectively pushing forward the local and international scientific data sharing practices by formulation of policies and regulations as well as construction of highly compatible data infrastructures, which offer abundant experience for China. After more than a decade of development, China’s scientific data management in geological survey has moved to the phase of strengthening the requirement of data sharing and accelerating the upgrade of data infrastructures. The data sharing based on geological data management, in particular, has been provided with a solid accumulation of data and practices. To push forward the development of scientific data sharing in geological survey, China will have to further improve the policies and regulatory system of data management, stimulate the data sharing of public funded research, as well as construct scientific data infrastructure with high-tech and global views. Meanwhile, an inter-ministerial cooperation for fundamental data sharing is essential to build a national geological data center to thereby improve the sharing efficiency and data’s value.
